Description
A solo organ work from Al Fedak, commissioned for the 2003 AGO Region II Convention in Albany, N.Y. Like the baroque Sonata da Chiesa (Church Sonata), Fedak’s Lyric Suite is cast in four movements. But its language is frankly romantic and brimming with memorable melodies and rich harmonies. A slow, tuneful Prelude opens the work, followed by an antiphonal Dialogue and Trumpet Tune and a quasi-fugal Pastorale. The rousing Final begins as a set of variations on a simple theme, but eventually draws on material from earlier movements for a thrilling climax. The twelve-minute suite may be performed in its entirety, or single movements excerpted for church use.
