Description
This festive, through-composed fantasy on the beloved hymn SINE NOMINE ("For all the Saints") is useful for either service or recital, and would make a particularly thrilling voluntary for All Saints. The work opens with declamatory flourishes which are followed by a playful dialogue. A lyrical prelude in trio style follows, leading directly into a dancing scherzo. A mystical meditation and a pedal variation (with manual commentary) precede a final fugue that drives the work towards the toccata-like coda.

Review
[Jonathan Biggers AGO recital at 2010 national convention, in National Presbyterian Church] opened with Craig Phillips's Fantasia on 'Sine Nomine,' commissioned by the University of Iowa in 2007 in honor of Delbert Disselhorst's retirement. From its robust opening through free variations featuring contrasting tonal colors to the exciting fugal section and powerful conclusion, Biggers played with dramatic flair. The piece and the composer received two rounds of enthusiastic applause from the audience." --The American Organist, October 2010
