Review
"'Joy to the World' is set for organ, brass quintet, and timpani. An introduction for organ and brass is followed by the hymn. The first stanza is a traditional harmonization with effective fanfare material for the brass. Stanza two contains a good descant for the sopranos. The third stanza features timpani, followed by the final stanza using an alternate harmonization and more brass fanfares. The set includes a full score and parts. Reproducible parts are included with trumpet parts in B-flat and C. The next two settings follow the same format as ANTIOCH. 'Hark! the Herald' has a descant for the second and third stanzas and much brass fanfare, along with the alternate harmonization in stanza three. In 'WINCHESTER OLD' the French Horn part gets some good writing, effectively showing off its color. One could also use the alternate harmonization apart from the brass writing by playing from the organ part rather than the full score. The fourth arrangement, 'ADESTE FIDELES,' features a nice extended introduction where the brass writing works as a foil to the organ part. There is a good descant for stanza three and a different descant for the final stanza. Again, the organ part could be used apart from the full score, using the alternate harmonization, in situations where brass players are not available." --AAM Journal, July/August 2010
