Description
This strong and splashy festival anthem for SATB, organ, brass, and timpani will do double duty. Provided with two separate texts, one for Easter and one for Pentecost, it's like having two anthems for the price of one. Martinson's setting of the tune RUSHFORD is masterful and inspiring.
Texts
"I Know That My Redemmer Lives"
I know that my Redeemer lives;
O the sweet joy this sentence gives!
He lives, he lives, who once was dead;
he lives, my everlasting Head.
He lives triumpany from the grave,
he lives eternally to save;
he lives exalted, throned above;
he lives to rule his church in love.
He lives, my kind, wise, constant Friend;
who still will keep me to the end;
he lives, and while he lives I'll sing,
Jesus, my Prophet, Priest, and King.
He lives, all glory to his Name;
he lives, my Savior, still the same;
what joy and blest assurance gives:
I know that my Redeemer lives!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
--Samuel Wesley
"This Day At Thy Creating Word"
This day at thy creating word
first o'er the earth the light was poured;
O Lord, this day upon us shine and fille
our souls with light divine.
This day the Lord for sinners slain
in might victorious rose again;
O Jesus, may we lifted be
from death of sin to life in thee!
This day the Holy Spirit came
with fiery tongues of cloven flame;
O Spirit, fill our hearts this day
with grace to hear and grace to pray.
All praise to God the Father be,
all praise, eternal Son, to thee,
whom, with the Spirit, we adore
for ever and forevermore.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
