Reviews
"David Hurd's Now the eleven disciples is a useful setting of the Great Commission ('Go therefore and make disciples of all nations'). It wants great care to produce the atmosphere necessary to catch the vision, but I believe that the effect is worth the care and the effort." AAM Journal, April 1995
Description The Great Commission, the challenging and comforting words of Jesus to the disciples, is the text for this attractive anthem. Hurd's music is sensitive to the text and moves the choir between unison and four-part texture. It has a beautiful soft ending with the choir singing "and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age."
Anthem text
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee,
to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.
And when they saw him they worshiped, they worshiped him;
but some doubted.
And Jesus came to them and said,
"All authority in heav'n and on earth has been giv'n to me.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you;
and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age."
