"Austin Lovelace's gentle The
Peace of Christ is a gorgeous motet with a great deal of
potential for use throughout the later Sundays of Easter."
-AAM Journal, March 1997
"Austin Lovelace's The Peace of Christ
is one of the lovelier recent unaccompanied works. While probably
best suited for the Sundays after Easter, we could benefit from
hearing and remembering Jesus' words of comfort and reassurance
'peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you' at other times
during the liturgical year as well. What connections might be
made if the anthem were sung, say, during communion?" -Grace
Notes, August 1997
Description A
serene, succinct, and very effective motet on this comforting
passage (and we don't know of another setting of this text in
common use).
Text
Peace
Peace I leave with you,
My peace I give unto you;
Not as the world gives,
Give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled,
Neither let it be afraid.
Peace I leave with you, Peace I leave with
you, Peace, Peace, Peace.
Text: John 14:27
