Peter Pindar Stearns
Peter Pindar Stearns (1931-2016) retired in 1989 after teaching at the Mannes College of Music for 32 years. During his years there, he was involved with the formulation of the composition curriculum and served 12 years as head of the Department. He also served as organist and choral director for various churches. Stearns also worked for Carl Fischer, Inc. as an editorial assistant and was Director of Publications for Coburn Press Music Publishers for eight years. Stearns wrote over 300 compositions which include seven symphonies, six string quartets, and many organ and choral pieces.
Stearns was born in New York City in 1931, raised in Los Angeles, and returned to NYC at age eighteen. He earned the Artist's Diploma from the Mannes Music School in 1952. Stearns died on October 15, 2016, at age 85.
