Richard Kroes (1926-2008) studied at the Brabants Conservatorium in Tilburg, The Netherlands, where he received certifications for organ performance, church music, and choral conducting. He studied organ with Hub Houëet, theory of harmony with Louis Toebosch, and church music with Jan de Bruyn.
Kroes served as organist at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Eindhoven for over 60 years. For many years he taught organ, theory of harmony, and church music at the music schools of Eindhoven and Geldrop. He helped to educate so many students to become organists that he was honored with the surname "Godfather" by many.
Throughout his career Kroes presented many organ recitals in The Netherlands, England, France, Austria, Italy, and Mexico. He composed numerous works for solo organ, many of which he performed in church services and recitals. He also wrote a book on the theory of harmony and several articles on religious music in Africa.
In 1995 Kroes was decorated by Pope John Paul II with the Knighthood of St. Sylvester. Several years later Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands granted him a royal decoration in the Order of Oranje Nassau.
