Timothy Dudley-Smith

Timothy Dudley-Smith was born December 26, 1926 in Manchester, England. He was ordained a deacon in 1950 and a priest in 1951 after studying at Tonbridge School and Pembroke College, Cambridge. Dudley-Smith served as Archdeacon of Norwich from 1973-81 and then as Bishop of Thetford from 1981-91. In 1991 he retired to Salisbury. As a hymn writer, he has published over 200 hymn texts in four single-author collections, with many of his hymns appearing in over 250 published hymnals throughout the English-speaking world and in translation. He is a member of the Hymn Society of Great Britain and Ireland and was honored as a Fellow of the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada.
