Reviews
"David Hurd has added 17 more hymn settings to this extensive series published by Selah. These short works may be used as hymn introductions, interludes, or free accompaniments. Hurd points out that these can also be grouped to form a small suite. He also gives helpful performance suggestions. As expected from knowing his hymns in The Hymnal 1982, these settings have much of the fresh harmonic idiom that appears in the hymnal. Some of the hymn settings have more than one version. For example, NEW BRITAIN has two settings, one a free harmonization and the second soloing out the melody. The last page in the volume has a helpful chart showing the volume in which various hymns appear. Some of the tunes included here are BRYN CALFARIA, DON AMPNEY, LAND OF REST, OLD HUNDREDTH, PICARDY, ST. DENIO, SLANE, and WONDROUS LOVE." --AAM Journal, May/June 2008
