Description
Commissioned by the Cathedral of All Souls in Asheville, N.C., in honor of Kyle Ritter's 20-year tenure as Canon for Music. A short motet that is exceptionally expressive and meaningful.

Anthem text
I sought my God
and my God I could not find;
I sought my soul
and my soul eluded me;
I sought to serve
my neighbor sore in need,
and I found all three:
My God, my soul, and thee.

--William Black

Review
"Blake's pithy comment about finding fulfillment in serving another is set by Roberts as a choral prayer. The first two lines are each repeated in legato lines of choral homophony. The concluding line begins fortissimo and seems poised to end the setting with an emphatic mandate, yet an abrupt interruption and subito piano brings the conclusion in hushed reverence and revelation. The barren E minor of the opening morphs into a warm and luminous A major." --AAM Journal, Jan./Feb. 2024
