The Lord is gracious and full of compassion,
slow to anger and of great kindness.
The Lord is loving to every one
and his compassion is over all his works.
All your works praise you, O Lord,
and your faithful servants bless you.
The eyes of all wait upon you, O Lord,
and you give them their food in due season.
You open wide your hand
and satisfy the needs of every living creature.
The Lord is righteous in all his ways,
and loving in all his works.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom;
your dominion endures throughout all ages,
the Lord is faithful in all his words,
and merciful in all his deeds.
My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord;
let all flesh bless his holy Name for ever and ever.

-- Psalm 145:8-10, 13-14, 16-18, 22

Description
Commissioned for the 2011 conference of the Anglican Association of Musicians, Robert Powell’s anthem sets familiar verses from Psalm 145 in a flowing triple meter. After beginning quietly with choir and organ on an invocation of "The Lord is gracious," an extended unaccompanied section ("The eyes of all wait upon you, O Lord”) follows, and then concluding with final section (“My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord") brings the organ back to support the choir in an affirmative finish.
