Description
The collapse of the Soviet Union has made available, and stimulated interest in, the wonderful music of the Orthodox Church in eastern bloc countries. One example is the music of the Bulgarian composer Dobri Christov. Though written in the early years of the 20th century, Christov's music is only now becoming known in the west, thanks, in part, to the efforts of Thomas Vozzella, who has prepared editions of several of these works for American choirs. "We Praise Thee" is a simple, brief, and beautiful unaccompanied choral hymn of praise and prayer, harmonically rich, and mystical in effect. The text is presented both in English and in a transliteration of the original Slavonic, together with a pronunciation guide. Sing this in the original language, and you'll almost be able to smell the incense!
