"Christ the Lord Ascends to Reign'is a setting of CHRIST IS ERSTANDEN by Jacobus Kloppers...Instrumentation is organ, trumpet, and two optional flutes; a congregational page is included." the Hymn, October 1995

Description The brass and organ enter into a lively dialogue throughout the piece, and the choir (and opt. congregation) sing the rhythmic Genevan melody in unison with but one choral SATB stanza. The music is given with two versifications of Psalm 98. Brass parts included.

Anthem text
Christ the Lord ascends to reign,
Christ has broken every chain;
hear the angel voices cry,
singing evermore on high: Alleluia!

Christ, who bore all pain and loss,
comfortless upon the cross,
lives in glory now on high,
pleads for us and hears our cry: Alleluia!

Christ, our Paschal Lamb indeed,
all your ransomed people feed;
take our sin and guilt away;
let us sing by night and day: Alleluia!

Christ now bids us tell abroad
how the lost may be restored,
how the penitent forgiven,
how we all may enter heaven: Alleluia!

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia,
Through the universe it rings
that the Lamb is King of kings: Alleluia!

Text: 15th cent.; Michael Weise, 1531; tr. Catherine Winkworth, 1858, alt.
