Review
"As we are pleasantly witnessing a resurgence of Psalm singing
in evangelical churches, this choral setting of Psalm 121 is
a welcome resource. Music's writing is thoughtful. His use of
harmonies reflects an apparent interest in the church modes,
providing unusual harmonic interest, yet not beyond the appreciation
of the typical congregation. With only ten measures in four-part
(the remainder is unison and two-part), this is a wonderful piece
for summer or those 'who knows who will come' Sundays. There
is great depth in the music, however, and that should not be
slighted." -Creator, July/August 1994. (One of "select
twenty.")
Description David
Music has arranged the neglected early American hymn FAIRFIELD
to a metrical paraphrase of Psalm 121. His accompaniment gives
new life to the tune and yet still is true to its folk origins.
Anthem text
Unto the hills I lift mine eyes;
O whence shall come my aid?
My help is from the Lord alone,
who heaven and earth has made;
my help is from the Lord alone,
who heaven and earth has made.
He will not let thy foot be moved,
thy guardian never sleeps;
with watchful and unslumbering care
his own he safely keeps;
with watchful and unslumbering care
his own he safely keeps.
Thy faithful keeper is the Lord,
thy shelter and thy shade;
'neath sun or moon, by day or night,
thou shalt not be afraid;
'neath sun or moon by day or night,
thou shalt not be afraid.
From evil he will keep thee safe,
for thee he will provide;
thy going out, thy coming in,
forever he will guide;
thy going out, thy coming in,
forever he will guide.
