Description
This wonderful setting of Herbert's poem by David Charles Walker appears in The Hymnal '82 and A New Hymnal for Colleges and Schools. The arrangement by Robert Brewer adds a four-part second stanza that turns the hymn into a reasonably easy hymn concertato. Congregational part included to photocopy.

Anthem text
King of glory, King of peace,
I will love thee;
And that love may never cease, I
will move thee.
Thou hast granted my request, t
hou hast heard me;
thou didst note my working breast, thou hast spared me.

Wherefore with my utmost art,
I will sing thee;
and the cream of all my heart,
I will bring thee.
Though my sins against me cried, thou didst clear me;
and alone, when they replied,
thou didst hear me.

Seven whole days, not one in sev'n,
I will praise thee,
In my heart, though not in heav'n
I can raise thee.
Small it is in this poor sort
to enroll thee;
e'en eternity's too short
to extol thee.

-George Herbert

Review
"If your congregation does not already sing King of glory, King of peace to David Walker's rapturous tune GENERAL SEMINARY, Robert Brewer's hymn-anthem arrangement will be well worth the money. With admirable restraint, he has provided an apt introduction, a tender middle stanza harmonization (often SAB), and a tiny interlude to the last stanza/descant. Appropriate uses for it might include weddings or funerals where there is a choir or small ensemble, as a summer or 'snow' anthem, and even as a hymn at choir retreats and choral festivals." -AAM Journal, Dec. 1994
