Description
This is a festival anthem based on words from Psalm 92. Outer sections in joyous triple meter surround a calm inner part with an extended solo. Various performance options are provided: the accompaniment of organ, brass quintet, and timpani can be augmented by an oboe; and the solo can be sung either an by an upper or lower voice or replaced by a full section.

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praise to your name, Most High,
to declare your love in the morning,
and your faithfulness by night,
with the sound of the lyre,
and the harp and the sound of the lute,
it is good to give thanks,
it is good to thank the Lord.
For you, Lord, make me glad by your deeds,
at the work of your hands I sing for joy.
How great are your works, O Lord,
your thoughts, how very deep!
The righteous shall flourish like palm trees,
and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon,
they shall thrive in the house of the Lord.
Even in their old age,
the righteous shall ever be fruitful,
staying fresh and always green.
Hear the song your church now raises;
hear and bless our prayers and praises.
The almighty God is my rock:
in the Lord is no evil at all.
