Description
An appealing piece for Christmas. Randomly rung handbells and the chant-like melody create a reflective atmosphere that would work well as a processional for Christmas Eve services. A perfect introduction to the pageantry and joyous singing we normally associate with such services. It can use any or all of your choir.
Text
Of all the flow'rs that grow on earth,
each one must fade and die.
But now a fadeless rose appears:
it comes from God on high.
Its fragrance fills the weary earth.
All hearts rejoice at Jesus' birth.
Glory spreads on our way,
God's own flower blooms today:
Christ the rose of love is born.

Reviews
"[Engquist's Flower of Love ] is an excellent processional for multiple choirs." Creator, July/Aug. 92 (This anthem was also one of their "Select 20")
"Jayson Engquist's Flower of Love is a gracious Dorian mode melody to be sung ad libitum to the random ringing of six bells. A written-out organum version for either SA or SATB is suggested for the final repetition. This gentle work might find just the right place in a carol service or Christmas Eucharist when simplicity would be a welcome relief." -AAM Journal, Dec. 1994 |
