Franklin D. Ashdown

.

Franklin Ashdown was a composer and medical doctor with a private practice in internal medicine in Alamagordo, New Mexico. He was born in 1942 in Logan, Utah, and died January 2023. He received his BA in 1963 from Texas Tech University and his MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas. He studied piano with William Murphy, organ with Judson Maynard and at James Drake University of Utah, and organ and composition with Fred Tulan and with Leonard Raver of Julliard School of Music.

Ashdown's first published work was Funambulistasia (1976, Seesaw, NYC). Since then he has published numerous organ solos, including Preambolo Maestoso, published by Selah in 1995, and choral anthems. Ashdown's compositions currently appear on two commercial CD's: "Requiem for the Challenger," and "Contemporary American Organ Music."
