Description
Two lesser-known, but strong, hymn tunes form the basis of these pieces by Alfred V. Fedak. The festive hymn tune Albany (also Fedak’s home of many years) receives a grand processional treatment, highly suitable as a festive postlude. A setting of the German chorale Tysk is cast in two movements (that can be played together or separately), with a strongly baroque-inspired style. The opening fantasia is a stylus phantasticus movement with free flourishes interspersed with the homophonic phrases of the chorale melody. The second movement is a contrapuntal chorale prelude with the melody on a solo stop.
