Review
"Bob Powell's 'Glory to Go, our Lord above' was written for treble voices, but a small mixed choir with some careful assigning of parts could easily sing it. As we have come to expect of Bob, this is expertly crafted, gratifying music both to sing and to hear. The infectious use of changing meters (7/8, 5/8, 2/4, etc.) will also make it a fine teaching piece. We can only wish that Selah had not put it into a format that involves a single half page insert: just the thing treble choristers always lose!" --AAM Journal, Feb. 2001
Description
A marvelously engaging work for unison voices with optional descant. In the dancelike opening and closing sections, the meter alternates between 7/8 and 5/8, while the middle section is more hymnlike. Junior choirs will enjoy singing this again and again!
Anthem text
Praise, O praise our God and King;
hymns of adoration sing;
for God's mercies still endure
ever faithful, ever sure.
Glory to God, our Lord above;
glory to God, the Lord of love;
glory to God, our bounteous King,
glory let creation sing.
Praise our God who made the sun
day by day its course to run,
and the silver moon by night,
shining with its gentle light.
Praise our God who gave the rain
to mature the swelling grain,
and has bid the fruitful field
crops of precious increase yield.
