Text
Feel the Spirit in the kicking
of Eliz'beth's unborn son,
when she heard the voice of Mary,
pregnant with the Chosen One.

Leap for joy at Jesus' coming,
long before you see his face!
Spirit of that joy be with us;
lead us in a dance of praise.

Sing the song that Mary taught us:
God has turned things upside down,
made the high and low change places,
toppled thrones, giv'n slaves a crown;

fed the hungry with a banquet,
sent the empty rich away!
God of Mary, God of Jesus,
hear our song of praise today.

Leap for joy at Jesus' coming,
long before you see his face,
Spirit of that joy, be with us,
lead us in a dance of praise!

Description
A joyously infectious, dancelike setting of Richard Leach's remarkable reflection on the Magnificat. With its pentatonic melody and rhythmic accompaniment, this piece will add a new dimension to your church's Advent or Christmas celebrations.

Comments from the Author, Richard Leach
Luke 1:41 paints a wonderful picture: Elizabeth and Mary meet one another after Mary has become pregnant with Jesus and Elizabeth with John. When Elizabeth hears Mary speak, her baby kicks, and she is filled with the Holy Spirit. Elizabeth says, "Blessed are you among women," and Mary replies with the words we call the Magnificat, "My soul magnifies the Lord...." The text of this anthem is in two parts, one inviting us all to leap for joy at Jesus' coming, the second paraphrasing a section of the Magnificat.
