Text
Rejoice and exult with all your heart,
O daughter of Jerusalem!
The Lord has taken away the judgements against you,
he has turned away your enemies.
The king of Israel, the Lord is in your midst;
you shall fear disaster no more.
The Lord is in your midst.
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
he will exult over you with loud singing
as on a day of festival.
I will remove disaster from you, so that you will not bear reproach for it.
I will save the lame and gather the outcast,,
and I will change their shame into praise,
praise and renown in all the earth.

--Zephaniah 3:14b-15, 17-19, alt.

Description
This festive anthem sets a text from the book of Zephaniah celebrating God’s promise to his people. Beginning in lyric joy it moves towards a resplendent conclusion and is suitable for almost any occasion.

Review
"American composer Craig Phillips gives us a brilliant and joyful statement of Zephaniah’s prophecy that God has taken away Israel’s guilt and punishment. The prophet’s exhortation for all believers to exalt in God and the good news provides the emotional content of the moderately difficult music. The lectionary assigns this text to Advent 3, Year C. Although the choral part is mostly homophonic, the organ part is independent; the pulse is the quarter note, but in various combinations of 2, 3 or 4; key changes are well prepared by the composer, but need to be prepared in the singers’ minds as well. This piece  would be my 'growing piece' for the choir this fall." --Worship Arts, October 2013
