Anthem text
The day begins and ends with praise:
the voice of dawn, the song of stars,
are praise to you, O Holy One;
the church takes up the song.

So praise encompasses the day:
our daily bread and all your gifts,
the cares and joy of work and home,
are circled round with praise.

The day begins and ends with peace:
the gift of sleep, the morning light,
the evening prayer that offers you
all that the day has held.

So peace encompasses the day:
all that you give, all that may come.
Our days begin and end with you,
and we depart in peace.

Description Richard Leach’s text celebrates the fullness of God’s blessing throughout the day and is matched by Alice Parker’s syncopated and characterful music. As always with Parker’s choral writing, every vocal part has great independence and interest. This anthem would make a distinctive inclusion in any service, especially evening services.
